Falling for CAS-ual Fridays

CAS-ual Fridays' challenge this week is to create a fall themed layout with paper piecing.  Their sponsor is ScraPerfect, which I never heard of until I checked out their website.  What amazing products they have and a great story of a SAHM who became a business woman.  Isn't that the dream?? With the prospect of making 100+ wedding invites in the next few months, this product would be very helpful! Okay, onward!
As you can probably tell, I am sort of stamp-challenged.  I have very few "outline" type stamps that lend well to paper piecing.  I am determined to conquer this, however!  So, I got creative with my inking techniques on the paper instead of using fun patterned papers to do my piecing (I'm also PP challenged....).
So, the paper pieced parts are the trunk and the leaves on the ground.  I stamped the tree with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, then swiped Timber Brown Staz-On on the stamp to create the bark effect and stamped over the first tree.  That created the trunk, which I cut out and pieced over the tree on the card.  The original tree is very small, so I very tediously inked individual leaves on the stamp (wiping off excess with a  baby wipe), and stamped them individually to increase the size of the tree.  I used four colors of Distress Ink to create the "leaves changing colors" effect--Vintage Photo, Barn Door, Wild Honey, and Peeled Paint.  The leaves on the ground are another solid leaf stamp from another set.    Not too shabby.  So not my style, but going out of the box helps boost the creative juice, eh??

So, the sentiment is one from a layout I did about 2 years ago.  It was for a fall themed, sepia challenge at my LSS (in another city, now closed--stupid economy).  I really love the layout and wanted to share with you.  I make so many cards now, but I consider myself a scrapbooker at heart.  In fact, when I feel like I've lost misplaced my card-making mojo, I like to stop and make a layout.  I find the change refreshing.  So, here is the layout:

So looking forward to some chillier weather...it's been approximately a thousand here in Dallas for the whole summer.  It's cooled now and I just can't wait for that crisp fall air and the sound of those leaves blowing across the sidewalk........
